In adult men, Proscar is used to decrease an enlarged prostate (also known as benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH). It can be used alone or in combination with other medications to alleviate BPH symptoms and possibly avoid surgery. Proscar (Finasteride) may help with BPH symptoms by reducing the need to urinate, improving urine flow with less straining, reducing the sense that the bladder isn't empty, and reducing overnight urination.
This medication works by lowering the quantity of DHT, a natural body hormone that drives prostate growth. Proscar isn't approved for prostate cancer prevention. It may raise the risk of acquiring a very dangerous form of prostate cancer by a small amount.
Keep a list of everything you use (including prescription and non-prescription pharmaceuticals, as well as herbal products) and discuss it with your doctor and pharmacist. Without your doctor's permission, do not begin, stop, or modify the dosage of any medications. The findings of a blood test used to identify prostate cancer may be influenced by this medicine (prostatic-specific antigen or PSA levels).

A few years ago, I was interviewed by a German TV channel which wanted to show that taking a 5mg tablet of Proscar did not require a prescription, but said it would be far cheaper to buy it online.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said the tablet, which is taken once a day, was effective for 36 hours and could be bought over the counter ( without a prescription). It is not yet available in the UK.
The agency said: “While the FDA has not yet approved Proscar for use in this way, it is widely accepted and is approved for use in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia ( BPH ), and also for use in the treatment of male pattern hair loss (androgenetic alopecia ) and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH ).”
While this means that Proscar could have a slight advantage over other options for treating these conditions, it is not yet known whether Proscar will make any headway in this regard.
The FDA did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Should you take Proscar or any other 5mg tablet? The active ingredient in Proscar is 5mg of Proscar. It is sold under the brand name Proscar, and is also used in some prescription medicines. The FDA said it was not yet aware of any data suggesting a slight advantage over Proscar.
Proscar is indicated for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia, the enlargement of the prostate gland in men, and the treatment of male pattern hair loss, both of which are conditions which require medical intervention.
The FDA said: “The data presented in the present study does not support the use of Proscar in this condition.”
The agency added: “In studies of male pattern hair loss, the use of Proscar has been associated with an increased risk of prostate cancer, but there is insufficient evidence that this is related to its effect on prostate cancer.”
Proscar has been on the market for some time. On 1st March 2011, it was prescribed to treat BPH. The drug was sold under the brand name Proscar for 36 hours.
The FDA said: “In clinical trials, Proscar had been shown to be effective in reducing the size of the prostate gland and improving urinary flow in men with BPH.”
The drug is also indicated for the treatment of male pattern hair loss and the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia.
The drug has been available on prescription for several years, but has not been approved by the FDA for sale.

RefreshFinasteride is used to treat men with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and male pattern hair loss, also called androgenetic alopecia. BPH is caused by an enlarged prostate. Men with BPH usually have difficulty urinating, a decreased flow of urination, hesitation at the beginning of urination, and a need to get up at night to urinate. Finasteride will make these symptoms less severe and reduce the chance that prostate surgery will be needed. It may be used alone or in combination with other medicines such as an alpha-blocker to treat BPH. For men with hair loss, finasteride will increase the number of scalp hairs but will not increase the amount of body hair.
Finasteride blocks the action of an enzyme called 5-alpha-reductase. This enzyme changes testosterone to another hormone that causes the prostate to grow or hair loss in males. It will increase testosterone levels in the body, which decreases prostate size and increases hair growth on the scalp. The effect of finasteride on the prostate and scalp will only last as long as the medicine is taken. When it is stopped, the prostate begins to grow again and the hair will be lost.

Finasteride is a medication approved for the treatment of adult men with the condition:
• Proscar (Finasteride) has been proven to be more effective than Proscar alone in male pattern baldness and in men with prostate cancer.
• Finasteride (Proscar) is currently only available in the UK, and has not been available in the USA or Europe for at least 2 years.
Finasteride (Proscar) is also used in adolescents for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia and male pattern hair loss in the early teenage years of life.
In a recent trial, patients taking Finasteride showed a clinically significant improvement in their sexual function (sex drive) and ability to use their sexual intercourse. The use of Finasteride in adolescents has been shown to be safe and well-tolerated, with adverse effects seen in less than 1% of patients.
Finasteride is a prescription medication that can be obtained over the counter from a doctor and has not been available in the USA for 2 years.
Finasteride is the generic version of Proscar. This is because Proscar contains the same active ingredient and is only available from a doctor’s prescription.
In clinical trials, men taking Finasteride were able to maintain a healthy sex life and enjoy a fulfilling sexual intercourse, with approximately 1 in 10 men experiencing sexual function problems at some point in their lives. These problems are thought to be caused by the hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT).
Finasteride can also be taken by men with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). In this study, a significant reduction in prostate volume was observed in those taking Finasteride. These results are thought to be related to a decrease in DHT levels.
In a recent study, men who took Finasteride (Proscar) were found to have a significantly lower incidence of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) than the other men taking a similar dose of Proscar. However, these findings were not statistically significant.
Finasteride (Proscar) is a medication that is commonly used for the treatment of BPH and is also used for male pattern hair loss. Men taking this medication may experience an improvement in their sexual function and ability to use their sexual intercourse. The effects of Finasteride on prostate growth may also be seen in men who have previously undergone prostatectomy.
Finasteride (Proscar) may also be used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). It is thought that Finasteride (Proscar) may also be used to treat male pattern hair loss (androgenetic alopecia) in men who are trying to become pregnant or who are breastfeeding.
The use of Finasteride in men with prostate cancer may also be used to treat male pattern hair loss (androgenetic alopecia). The use of Finasteride (Proscar) in men with BPH has also been shown to be safe and well-tolerated.
Finasteride (Proscar) may also be used in men with male pattern hair loss to treat male pattern hair loss (androgenetic alopecia). It is thought that Finasteride (Proscar) may also be used to treat male pattern hair loss (androgenetic alopecia).
